Well it has happened again. Another mass murder by a lunatic in Connecticut at a public school. How could this have happened? What kind of evil person could do something so horrific as to slaughter innocent people, especially young children? Most people should already know the answer to this question that gets asked over and over again each time a mass murder occurs at a so-called safe “gun-free zone”.

Enough is enough! How many more innocent people must be slaughtered like defenseless sheep in these “gun-free zones” before common sense prevails and people demand the real “change” that will alter the outcome of these horrible evil acts? How many more of our children must die behind the sign or sticker that says “Welcome sadistic, murdering sociopaths! No legal gun possession is allowed in here. Come on in and let the killing spree begin, because no law abiding citizen will be able to stop you.”

These postings on public schools and other buildings, like the shopping mall in Aurora Colorado where the movie theater shooting occured several months ago, do not ever deter an armed lunatic that is hell bent on mass murder. They never have. They never will. They are welcome mats for pathetic losers who know they can become famous for their body count. Even professionals in law enforcement are screaming this message from the rooftops.

“The killer in [Newtown] came armed for bear and couldn’t care less about some gun law. The school’s anti-gun law prevented any adults working at the school from having access to a firearm. If the school’s principal had been armed and trained, she might have saved many lives. Had several people been armed at that school, the shooter, suspect Adam Lanza, would have possibly been stopped at the front door by a hale of bullets,” -former NYPD detective Mike Snopes.

“The suspect, with a mask, a military type vest and black clothes parked his car outside of the school gate. He walked up to the school right in front of the windows carrying four big guns. He went up to the locked front door where he could be camera checked, and then he got buzzed into the school. The suspect goes to the principal’s office while the announcements are playing, over the PA, to the whole school. Everyone in the school hears shots being fired. Had teachers or school employees been armed, instead of fleeing and allowing the killer to walk around the facility unimpeded, the school staff could have surrounded the madman and ended the attack. Listening to television talking-heads who are gun law experts of sorts, we are now all supposed to decide that banning guns would prevent this type of crime. But wait! Guns are already banned in schools. That is why the shootings happen in schools. A school is a ‘helpless victim zone’”.- Richard Mack, former Sheriff, Graham County, Ariz.

There is but one antidote for this disease in America. An extremely high dose of jacketed, hollow point lead administered into said perpetrator by competent, trained law abiding citizens that are at the scene of these attempted mass murders. Teachers. principals, custodians, preachers, secretaries, accountants, lawyers, doctors, truck drivers, firefighters, church parishioners, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters etc., etc., etc. And yes, police and law enforcement officers too; in the rare event they are present at the time these criminal acts are perpetrated.

If you think this, yet to be tried, solution is just too extreme, radical or uncivilized in the new “progressive” America that we live in today, then continue to place your faith in the failed policies and laws that claim a written law, gun bans, or a sign or sticker of a gun with a red slash through it will keep you safer than training and arming yourself with a firearm. And then continue to grieve for and bury our innocent children whom we all should be morally and legally responsible to protect. Murderers and criminals, by the very definition of their occupation, do not obey the law, including any “Gun Free Zone” law. These “feel good” laws only affect you, me and every other law abiding citizen.

December 25 is the day when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Savior of Mankind. Hence the word “CHRIST-mas”. Belief in Jesus Christ is not required to make this day be referred to as Christmas. We all have free will to believe in and on whatever we want in this world. God is really cool that way. Non-belief however does not change the root origin of the day. I tell everyone I see this time of year “Merry Christmas!”. I also reply “Merry Christmas!” back to people that say “Happy Holidays” or “Happy Festivus” or anything else. What I am saying by this simple salutation is “Happy Birthday Jesus!”.

We all look for “free stuff”, especially this time of year when all the retail sales and promotions are going hot and heavy. In almost half a century of drawing air in this world, I have really only found one true “free” thing. That is the gift of everlasting life, peace and unimaginable grace in Christ. With this said, there are some not so good people out there this time of year looking for and taking stuff. Robbery, burglary and deadly force encounters all rise during this time of year. Stay prepared and by all means be aware of your surroundings. Watch where you park your car, be alert to people following or trailing you and always, always keep a comfortable space between you and others you don’t know when out in public. Lastly, keep your sword (your weapon) sheathed and know that The Bible tells me so!

In John 18:11, after Peter cut the ear off the servant of the high priest arresting Jesus, Jesus told Peter “Put your sword back into it’s sheath! Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?” He did not tell Peter to get rid of the sword, throw the sword away, or do not carry the sword. He did not tell him the sword was too big or too sharp or that it (the sword, the tool, the weapon) was responsible for killing and death. He told him to sheath it. Keep it at your side. Wear it. Have it at the ready when needed. Apply this simple verse into today’s world with your carry gun.

A psalm of David. “Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle”. Psalm 144:1.

Merry Christmas!

For those of you who don’t know already, YES we do sell legally registered suppressors at Off Duty Armory. Even with the internet and global information now at our fingertips, it never ceases to amaze me how many people still believe that these devices are illegal. Not only are these registered Title II devices legal, Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. is now taking under consideration the legal hunting of all game and non-game species in the state with suppressors. The hunting of non-game species has always been legal with suppressors and now there are a series of public forums scheduled where YOU and other informed citizens can weigh in on the benefits of this proposed law change.

Click here for locations of public forums

The benefits of this proposed law change are many. Reduced hearing loss, reduced noise in encroaching urban areas, and increased accuracy due to reduced recoil are a few. There will always be people that will question why someone “needs” one of these tools or that these tools have some sort of “bad” reputation by their mere existence. I lived through this same ridiculous rhetoric when AR style rifles were under attack in the 90′s and are now commonplace firearms used in hunting, recreational and sport shooting, law enforcement and home/personal protection. Any such questions can always be answered with the following three words…. All Lawful Purposes.

Leave those earplugs at the house and get out to one of these public forums to voice your support for the lawful hunting of game animals in Texas with suppressors!

We usually stock up for the coming year on our Title II weapons and accessories at SHOT and this year was no different. We are proud to add Tactical Solutions and HTG suppressors to our lineup and already have some special builds in the planning stages using these products. With the exciting news that Texas Parks and Wildlife is now revisiting the legal hunting of all animals (including non-nuisance species) with firearm suppressors, we want to make sure we are prepared!

If it was pink or “Zombie” related, it was HOT at SHOT this year! We saw Gen 3 and digital night vision products really starting to become more affordable as more new manufacturers emerge. Lots and lots of LED flashlights, weaponlights and IR illuminators on the market now and the technology just keeps getting better and better! Come see us for all the new stuff!

As<del></del> I observe people who are looking for a handgun for concealed carry or home/vehicle defense, I often hear things like,”I want a gun that has a safety” or “Bubba told me not to get a insert brand name here gun because they don’t have safeties”. You will hear me talk about Bubba from time to time. He’s the guy we all know that knows everything about everything and is all too gracious to share his wisdom with you every chance he gets. Bubba the doctor, lawyer. plumber, electrician, rocket scientist, and in cases of my blogs; Bubba the gun expert. Bubba is right sometimes, and other times, well………..Read on.

Every firearm has two safeties. The first one is your brain. The second one is your trigger finger. If you use these two safeties every time you use any firearm, you can virtually eliminate negligent or accidental discharges. Yes there are mechanical safeties on all types of guns that block the firing pin, or disengage the trigger or hammer or lock the bolt closed, etc. These are all mechanical devices that have to be in good working condition that can also fail due to worn parts, getting dirty, or being poorly manufactured. And if you don’t train in consistent muscle memory exercises in releasing or switching a safety off when drawing your handgun, then you won’t do it in a real life crisis situation. And then it’s game over.

The analogy that I love to use is this. Gun safety and sex education. Think of properly using your brain and your trigger finger as abstinence. Think of relying on a mechanical safety as birth control pills or condoms. One works every time it is tried. The other works most of the time, but is never 100% reliable…………See you next month!

11/16/11- Weaponlights, (weapon mounted flashlights) are becoming increasingly popular with law enforcement and civilian gun owners alike. The portability, convenience and “extra hand” that weaponlights offer are unparalleled. What seems to be slow to adapt to this trend is how we train with weapon mounted lights when we use them as illumination tools. Because when illuminating people (good or bad) with this tool, we are pointing the muzzle of a loaded weapon at them as well.

When a weaponlight is used as a illumination device for any task, such as searching a dark area while investigating a suspicious noise, clearing an unlit room, or positively identifying “friend or foe”in the dark, we are pointing the muzzle of the weapon in the same direction as the weaponlight beam. This violates one of the most basic and sacred rules of gun safety: “Never point the muzzle of a loaded weapon at anything or anybody that you do not intend to kill or destroy”.

Weaponlights are here to stay. Like so many other things that evolve and change, so must our mindset, training and diligence when it comes to weapon handling. We are currently designing a training program to hit this issue head on. Just as muscle memory and dedication to practice are key to traditional weapon training, so must it be for weaponlight training and use.

Check our training schedule for this training course coming soon! Stay safe and light em’ up!!
